Summer School Holidays 2025: How Mars-vellous

January 2 - January 25

Mars, the Mars-vellous red planet (see what we did there?) is as far as we know entirely inhabited by rovers and other robotic instruments. Mars will be reach opposition during January 2025 and be at it closest approach this orbit. What do we know about Mars? and what questions do we still have?

Find out at the Ballarat Observatory this summer.* Choose a session that suits your group best. Bookings are essential. 

 


AstroKids

1.00pm-2.30pm Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays during January 2025.

Come along and learn about mars with talks from an astronomer, craft activities, a 3D Astrotour movie and more.

When: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in January 10.00-11.30am** ***

Mars-Vellous Activities

Evening Program

Experience a guided tour of the historic site, a presentation about expeditions to the red planet  and view the night sky through a telescope. If cloudy a virtual night sky tour will replace telescope viewing.

When: Most Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturday in January 8.30pm-10.30pm**


* If forecast is above 34 degrees, session may be cancelled and tickets refunded.

** No Sessions on 11th of January

*** AstroKids Session 14th of January 1.00pm-2.30pm.
