Evening Sessions (Tuesday*, Wednesday* and Saturday 6-8pm)*
Our evening sessions involve a tour of the historic observatory, a short Astrotour movie, and finished with wonderful star gazing with our modern telescopes. If the weather is cloudy, a virtual night sky tour will run instead of telescope viewing. We recommend bringing a water bottle, insect repellent and a blanket.
Afternoon Family Sessions (Tuesday, Thursday 2.15pm-3.45pm*, Saturday 4pm-5.30pm*)*
Learn about light with one of our astronomers with a mix of hands-on experiences and talks. You’ll learn about Reflection, Refraction, Light pollution and how visible and and invisible light helps astronomers discover our amazing universe.
Little Learners: Twinkle Twinkle ‘Little’ Star (Thursday 9.45am-10.30am* and 4pm-4.45pm)*
Little Learners is designed especially for preschool aged children but is fun for the whole family.
This week’s special edition is about the not so little stars we see up in the night sky. Learn about the colours and sizes stars come in, and about our closest star the Sun. Bring all your astronomy questions.
3D AstroTour Movie: Expedition Earth (Tuesday, Thursday 5.15pm):
This short movie details the search for exoplanets using the Kepler Space Telescope.
Guided Tour (Tuesday 4.15-4.45pm, Saturday 3.00-3.30pm*)*
A 30-minute guided tour of the Ballarat Observatory.
